Fried Foods a Week is also Dangerous For the Heart

People who eat just 4 ounces (114 grams) of fried foods a week have a 12 percent higher risk of heart attack, Chinese experts have found after a detailed study.

Past medical research has linked fried foods to obesity, type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure, but this is the first study to examine the effects of fried foods on heart health.

For the research, Chinese medical experts used data from 23 extensive studies from a total of more than 1.3 million people. Of these, 17 studies involving 562,445 individuals and 36,727 cases of heart damage were conducted to assess the relationship between fried foods and heart disease.

Using data from six other studies, an attempt was made to determine the relationship between fried foods and mortality. The studies involved 754,873 volunteers and recorded 85,906 deaths.

The study found that people who ate a lot of fried foods had a 28 percent higher risk of serious heart disease, a 22 percent lower risk of heart and arterial disease, and a lower risk of heart attack than those who ate less. The risk is 37% higher.

In the same analysis, experts found that every 4 ounces (about half a pound) increase in the amount of fried food throughout the week increased the risk of heart attack by 12%, the risk of heart attack by 3% and heart disease The risk increases by 2%.

However, there has been no link between eating fried foods and dying from any heart disease.

The authors of the report, published in the latest issue of the medical journal Heart, cautioned that the study should not be considered final because it relied on previous studies. However, in the course of the analysis, these old studies have also revealed incompleteness in many respects which need to be eliminated in further research and better studies need to be compiled.
